Boaz Berney
Biography
In addition to being active as a professional flutist on the Renaissance and Baroque music scene, Boaz Berney works in research, flute-making, and restoration of flutes from the medieval to the classical period. He is internationally recognized for his research and reproductions of historical flutes and regularly participates in exhibitions of historical instrument makers in Berlin, London, Vienna, Utrecht, Boston, and San Francisco. www.berneyflutes.com
Boaz Berney regularly performs internationally as a flutist with various Renaissance and Baroque ensembles. He is a founding member of the Renaissance flute consorts Modena Consort (www.modenaconsort.com) and Discantvs (www.discantvs.com). These ensembles also provide him with opportunities to test and perfect different consort models he has made over the years.
Boaz studied baroque flute with Wilbert Hazelzet at The Royal Conservatory, The Hague. He is active in various early music ensembles and performs music from the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries. In addition to performing, he makes copies of historical flutes based on original instruments in European museums. He plays on flutes that he has crafted himself and regularly participates in international early music exhibitions. Boaz is also researching flute history and has been invited to lecture at various symposiums dedicated to historical woodwinds.
